Guidance Released on Coverage of OTC COVID-19 Tests

Written by SISCO

On January 10, 2022, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Department of Labor, and the Treasury issued guidance regarding the requirements for group health plans and health insurance issuers to cover over-the-counter (OTC) COVID-19 diagnostic tests.

Starting Saturday, January 15, 2022, group healthcare plans, including fully insured and self-funded plans and individual insurance policies, will be required to cover the cost of these tests, even if they are obtained without the involvement of a health care provider.
